Lawrence arrived home after a successful skiing trip with the family in Austria and I’d booked us an afternoon out for Second Chance Cinema.
As always it was something I spotted on Twitter and it was a showing of ‘About Time’ – the new Richard Curtis film with Bill Nighy and Rachel McAdams.
The venue was the lovely looking Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green which I’d never heard of until I booked the tickets.
The hotel has been used in quite a few well known movies, including Snatch, Atonement and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
The film was shown in the Council Chamber and you make your way up the wonderful marble staircase, surrounded by wonderful Art Deco style accessories.
Wooden panels line the full length of most of the corridors until you reach the chamber.
Once you’re settled and seated the lovely popcorn lady provides you with Goats Cheese and Toffee Apple popcorn.
Along with randomly chocolate cigarettes!
The film itself was great and well worth a watch. Be prepared and bring some tissues with you as it gets a little sad although is equalled out with plenty of laughs.
It finished a bit too late to enjoy the hotel’s restaurant ‘Corner Room’ which gets good reviews.
We had an equally fabulous meal in the form of takeaway fish and chips from Sea-fish on Upper Street in front of House of Cards. Perfect Sunday afternoon/evening.
