After a quick look on Trip Advisor I’d taken down a couple of potential Birthday dinner venues near our Villa in Ibiza.
I was spoilt rotten on the morning of my birthday with the arrival of Watermelon, Nurofen and a glass of orange juice from the girls after our night out at Space.
Then the day got even better with an incredible Birthday BBQ at the Villa in the evening, with surprise balloons, bubbly and a beautiful photo frame and bracelet.
Being the Queen I am, I thought it only expected I extend my Birthday and booked us for dinner at the beautiful Can Berri Vell.
I’d read the balcony is a wonderful spot and we arrived up in the hills to this enchanting and rustic Spanish restaurant as the sun was setting.
Our table looked down to the rest of the tables and reminded me a bit like The Hobbit with the low doors (only bumped my head once!)
The menu was glorious but first up we ordered a couple of bottles of the house white to get things started, which was a lovely crisp, dry white wine. House wines abroad always better than in England!
They emerged with cod, tomato and olive aperitifs and two long trays of very large olives which I’m told were succulent and very tasty.
We had a very unusual Scrambled eggs with “sobrassada” and, sautéed wild mushrooms dish. This was a lovely mixture the runny egg seeping into the sobrassada (my new favourite Spanish sausage meat).
The Ravioli stuffed with blood sausage with a boletus edulis sauce was probably one of my favourite dishes, perfectly cooked pasta with a soft and flavoursome filling.
Although I have to say my favourite dish of all the starters was Beef carpaccio with tangerine vinaigrette, parmesan and Mahon cheese shavings. This always goes down a treat, wafer thin which melts in your mouth.
Finally we shared the Prawns, nuts vinaigrette and wild mushrooms salad, which was a great accompaniment to all the other dishes (apologies for no pictures, clearly too absorbed by the food!)
Next were the mains which I won’t bore you with everyone’s – instead I’ll dive straight into mine, the Iberian pork stuffed with goats cheese and mushrooms, raspberry sauce and potatoes “revolconas”. The meat was incredible, tender flavours jumping off the plate.
Dessert consisted of sharing three, Tiramisu, Chocolate Brownie and my personal favourite the Baked Cheesecake.
We were all pretty split in our opinions which worked out perfectly as all got more of our favourites!
It was a memorable evening and the environment / company just made the evening. The wine was flowing, good food and beautiful views from our hidden balcony table. If anyone is in the area, do pay the restaurant a visit. Thank you ladies for making it one of the best Birthdays I’ve ever had.
