After seeing on We The Food Snobs a new residency from Le Bun at New Street Grill and an even nicer read was that they were doing 50% off all food and wine on the weekend. There was only one thing for it, book a table for 4 as a hangover brunch and make the most of the discount.
New Street Grill is a great venue and one I haven’t been to before, definitely take a trip through the mirrored toilets, random suggestion I know!
Anyway onto the food, what I hadn’t realised was that the 50% was extended throughout the whole menu both food and the LARGE list of drinks that New Street Grill offer. If only myself, Billy, Alex and Becca weren’t a little bit hungover then this could have been a very good afternoon making the most of the drinks on offer.
Instead we ploughed through the Le Bun menu. Becca and I shared two brioche buns Le Duck Frites – pulled confit duck, straw frites, béarnaise spread, duck sauce and champagne slaw – sounds decadent doesn’t it.
The second bun was Le Bourguignon – slow and short beef rib, bourguignon glaze, bacon salt, truffle mayo and champagne slaw.
Both were lovely soft brioche buns crammed with succulent meat. My favourite was the confit duck, the flavours were stronger than the beef and much more distinctive.
Now we couldn’t just leave it at that and decided to also share Le Bisque Mac – shellfish bisque infused macaroni, seared shrimps, rouille and gruyere croutes. Again sounds so splendid but this one was lacking on the macaroni front. The sauce was a bit too thin and not as strong in taste as I was expecting but still went down a treat.
Billy plumped for the southern fried chicken with truffles and waffles which seemed to get wolfed down rather quickly so must have been good.
After sharing a bottle of wine and sides of chips and onion rings it was time to order the bill.
What a treat on a Sunday afternoon to eat like kings and queens all for only £15 each! The venue is lovely and the food was great, definitely worth popping down to after a night out, Le Bun will be there all of October.
