It’s always nice to get the chance to catch up with the girls from school outside of a noisy bar / club and what better setting than at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at The Sanderson Hotel.

Despite working down the road I’ve never popped inside but the decor and furniture is great, well worth a visit for a drink or two.

We were there for a very civilised alcohol free afternoon tea theme from Alice in Wonderland, £38 for unlimited sandwiches, tea and cakes. Sitting outside in the courtyard it’s a beautiful setting with wonderful company in the form of the girls!

We settled in with our tea while we awaited the food, I even nearly managed a whole pot of Fruit tea which is a rare feat for me!

The sandwiches are an assortment of four with different flavoured bread, Goats cheese & cucumber, salmon, ham, egg & cress. Incredibly moorish and they just keep on coming.

Without filling up completely on the savoury we sampled the beautiful tiers of cakes on offer, including victoria sponge, savoury and sweet scones, melting mango cheesecake and a solero style little bottle labelled ‘drink me’.

There’s also a selection of ‘wonderland jellies’ in the corner which we didn’t quite make it to after the large amounts of sandwiches!!

It’s a great setting for a good old natter with the girls and catching up on each other’s busy lives before the next birthday or drunken evening we have together.

You can up your tea to include champagne as well which would make a nice little celebratory treat. Which talking of celebrations we had a little belated bday treat for our one and only Polly, who unfortunately couldn’t make it – but was there in spirit in the form of chocolate cake!
