We headed East to the ever trendy Hoxton Square and were lucky enough to be eating at Circle Pizza Co, a brand new pizza restaurant that has just opened. Nestled on the side of Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (which many of you may remember was a Mexican) this has now been transformed into a spacious, rustic pizza joint.
Head chef Tony is a world pizza champion using only the best ingredients so you can rest assured that the pizzas are going to be good. With Pizza East just down the road it needs to wow!
The menu is a simple selection but offers something for everyone. We went halves starting with the ‘Rocket Man’, San Marzano tomato, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto San Daniela, rocket, parmigiana-reggiano with extra virgin olive oil. Gorgeous pizza dough base and wonderful flavours from the topping with plenty of cheese just how I like it. The base is made with sourdough starter and 150 year old living yeast, clearly worth it after tasting the results.
Next up was the ‘Dark Side of the ‘Shroom’, tomato, mozzarella, marinated mix of wild mushrooms, homemade ricotta cream sundried tomatoes. As with the Rocket Man, perfectly cooked and top quality ingredients, only thing was perhaps the ricotta was a little too subtle, but then I’m no doubt bias to strong cheese!
It was safe to say the food is great, both of us demolished the pizzas and were still drooling over the tables next to us to see the others on offer. It’s a great addition to the area and will do very well with the punters who are out for a few drinks after work and need some food before home.
We couldn’t resist stopping off for a cheeky cocktail at the newest 5cc bar which was opened towards the end of 2014 down in the basement of the Electricity Showrooms.
Lovely decor and delicious cocktails, although completely deserted on a Wednesday evening – but I’m sure on weekends the space fills out.
