I was lucky enough to go a wonderful school in Hertfordshire which has led to the blossoming of friendships which are now over 15 years old but yet still standing strong. A few months ago I spotted the opening of a new restaurant in Battersea Square called ‘Queenswood‘. Perfect excuse for us OQs to reunite for a catch up over good food and wine.
Unfortunately when we arrived and asked the origin for the name of the restaurant they said it was for no reason, which is a shame as we were hoping for some elaborate story leading to the best name, but hey ho we can give it a reason!
Anyway so the restaurant is from the owners of Damson & Co in Soho and they’ve set up Queenswood in the up and coming Battersea Square area so it was nice to get the chance to explore SW11 for a change! The head chef has moved across from Paris and has previously worked in Atelier de Joël Robuchon so you can be sure the food is going to be good.
There’s a strong focus on Vegan and vegetarian food but meat lovers don’t panic there is still plenty of meat and fish on the menu!
After plenty of talking we finally found a moment to take a breather and look at the menu. Luckily I had a sharing buddy in Caroline so we went halves on the smoked duck salad and then the crispy squid. The duck salad was gorgeous accompanied with grapefruit, sesame seeds, green beans and bamboo shoots.
Showing just how generous the portions are, the crispy squid appeared in a rather clever silver tin. Lovely squid with just the right amount of crunch with each mouthful.
After a very indecisive moment and after a few glasses of vino the steak frittes was up next for mains, It was an excellent chunk of meat, moist with it’s own juices so no need for any sauces. Looking back perhaps should have opted for one of the more unusual but at the time it was perfect. There was many a lamp chop ordered and all the dishes were huge portions – made for Queenswood girls!
Finishing off with something sweet we went for the chocolate fondant (one between two), absolutely delicious and topped with a scrumptious salted caramel sauce. Very rich and decadent indeed – perfect for sharing.
It was a glorious evening and if you’re in the area would definitely recommend you make a stop at Queenswood. Here’s to many more evenings with the girls over the next 15 years – things haven’t changed a bit and I’m assuming they never will!
