A very delayed post but wanted to share such a wonderful day and spread the word for those who haven’t heard or been to Rugby Sevens at Twickenham. It’s a competition that happens every year and travels around the World with the action starting in October in Australia and London being the last event of the tour.

We headed down on Saturday, the most raucous of the weekend at Twickenham with each year being dedicated a fancy dress theme which was space this year. After a very last minute scavenger hunt for our costumes, I have to say we did pretty darn good, think it was the white wigs that added to it and lots of glitter, never too much glitter!

After a few years of trial and error, with a big group the best thing to do is to rendezvous in a local pub which this year was St Margaret’s Pub right by the station, about a 20minute walk from Twickenham stadium. After a few bevvies in the sunshine and some last minute make up updates it was off to the ruggers missing the very busy trains from Clapham Junction at that time.

Our lovely ring leader Luci had managed to get us tickets in the bottom ring of the stand, up close with the action. This year seemed even busier than normal and it helps to find the ladies toilets that are hidden away meaning less queues otherwise you could find spending most of your day queuing. It seemed that way at times when the bar queues got a little out of hand but this didn’t deter us!

The format of the day are matches which last 7 minutes each half so as you can imagine you start to lose track of who’s playing and who’s won etc but after a bit of googling I can say that USA were the triumphant winners this year!

It’s a great day out with a group of mates, laughing, drinking and enjoying the fancy dress. Would definitely recommend but be ready for the elements, we were lucky this year with glorious sunshine – makes a difference!
