After a great year last year at Field Day with my partners in crime how could I possibly resist heading down again! Field Day takes place in Victoria Park and started in 2007 and they still have the village fete style hay bales area to this day, which include sack races, tug of war and many other traditional games.
The music for the event is described as alternative with anything from weird pop and indie to folk musicians. This year the headline acts were Caribou, Ride, Patti Smith, Todd Terje, FKA Twigs and many more.
The beauty of the line up is there is such a variety that you can skip from tent to tent exploring the musical vibes and see what takes your fancy. When the sun is shining then the atmosphere is even more enjoyable with everyone carrying a smile on their face!
We started at Lexi’s flat then made our way down to Victoria Park to join the crowds, despite the sold out numbers and queue to get in it doesn’t feel too hectic inside which always makes a difference.
We started in one of the smaller tents with a new one for me Marcel Dettmann B2B Ben Klock, good vibe and a good start to the day. Popping out for some drinks I bumped into a few friends from work, surprising how small the London world is!
Highlights in terms of music were the Django Django DJ set and Todd Terje as always. Most of the day was spent outside dancing in the sun with a cider in hand, doesn’t get much better than that. Didn’t sit down once from the moment we entered until midnight, good old workout.
We finished the night off listening to Caribou on the main stage which unfortunately was a little too chilled for our liking to end things, especially as it was 1.5hr set.
It was a great day out with the crew as always and Victoria Park is a great venue for festivals, especially with the knowledge of getting your own bed rather than a sweaty tent to wake up in, clearly I’m getting older! Will be heading down to Lovebox in July at Victoria Park, bring it on.
