The lovely Alice was kind enough to offer up the family timeshare for a week in Gran Canaria – Naomi and I jumped on this offer and we headed on over.
Having picked up our car for the week and Alice got to grips with the roads we arrived up the windy steep hill and emerged to the most amazing view which would be our home.
We were staying in Amadores which is about a 30minute drive from the airport.
Gran Canaria was not what I expected as well, it was ever so quiet as apparently we were there during the off peak season which suited us immensely. You find the small pockets of Brits abroad style restaurants and crazy golf but then there are many beautiful areas too.
One popular area to visit are the Dunas de Maspalomas, which are breathtaking when you see the expanse of them.
I’m not quite sure how people managed to sunbath as the walk to the sea is very long and across incredibly hot sand!
After our day trip out in the car via a few nudist beaches which we accidentally stumbled upon, it was back to relax on the balcony with sangria and ice cream.
Another great visit for a day trip was to get the ferry from Puerto Rico to Mogan, a beautiful beach town with the prettiest little houses lined with flowers and painted holiday colours.
Perfect place for a casual stroll which meant getting the chance to pop on a boat and experience the sea air.
The location of the apartment is only a 20minute walk down to the beach where we discovered our favourite spot of the holiday, Amadores beach club.
Perched right on the edge of the beach with Essex style white beds surrounding the beach but also has a lovely bar to watch the sunset.
Surprising the hours that fly by when you’re enjoying good chat and a couple of jugs of Champagne Sangria!!
You can either pop along the beach promenade and find a tapas restaurant which is much cheaper but we did treat ourselves to the beach club for dinner on the last night.
Now saying that the Brits abroad areas can be avoided we couldn’t resist having a very amusing night out in Puerto Rico town. We started with a lovely traditional tapas style dinner recommended by one of the staff at the apartment, which unfortunately I can’t find the name of.
Then after filling up on the grub we made the 2min walk along the road and found ourselves in the true British bars and clubs, drawing us in was of course the bar with four topless men having a dance on the stage – classy!
It was great fun, complete with sparklers in the cocktails.
It was the loveliest little holiday, chilling with a good book, chilled sangria and good food. Couldn’t have asked for better company – already seems so long ago, can we go back!
