Us uni girls do love a good reunion over food and our surroundings for this occasion was Dirty Bones on the top floor of Kingly Court. Dirty Bones have had a presence across many food festivals and popup venues with a permanent residence already in Kensington. In Summer of this year they’ve ventured into Central London and opened in the wonderful Kingly Court.
As with many other restaurants in London and especially Soho they specialise in American comfort food and cocktails, with stiff competition they’ll be looking to offer the best selection to their diners.
It’s a nice venue complete with neon lit decorations speckled around the room. It is very small so make sure you book in advance, although as you may know Kingly Court has many restaurants on offer so if you aren’t able to get space perhaps give Pizza Pilgrims a go downstairs, but I digress, this is Dirty Bones’s moment!
We just grabbed the end of their cocktail happy hour and sampled the small selection of tasty cocktails on offer.
While perusing the menu we started with some chicken wings glazed in lemon and topped with chilli and spring onion and for the braver of our group the charred padron peppers. The chicken wings were a lovely small dish to get us going.
We were all very boring and ended up going for their burgers with my burger of choice being the Mac Daddy. 6oz house burger topped with pulled beef short rib, mac & cheese and dirty bones BBQ sauce. It was a good burger and the mac & cheese was a decadent treat sandwiched between although we didn’t feel it was the greatest burger we’ve ever had. It was all a little soggy and some of the girls found their burgers not quite hot enough in temperature.
The restaurant still seemed to be in their early days as the service was a little chaotic and then when it got to ordering more drinks, they only had one of the beers left from the menu. They did preempt our pudding thoughts as unfortunately they didn’t have any in the restaurant that evening so instead we got the option of a free cookie or donut. Not quite what we were after but the thought was there.
It was a lovely evening catching up with the girls but unfortunately the meal didn’t quite stand out when there are so many other burger joints as an option.
