Good old Hot Dinners flagged that the people behind The Riding House Cafe in Fitzrovia were opening a brand new restaurant with a similar name, Rail House Cafe but this time in Victoria. This is yet another wonderful opening in the brand new Nova development.

This is a much larger space for them and offers all day dining, great for breakfasts but also good for a casual drink or dinner with friends. They were in their soft launch week when we popped in but the place was buzzing already. The waiters were lovely and the senior members were coming round asking for honest feedback which you felt they would honestly take it on to make the place as good as it can be.

The lovely Becca and I shared a few dishes from the Sharing Larder section of the menu. I say a few, our plates barely fitted on the table, whoops. Unfortunately I failed on getting many pictures but the ones you can see I can assure you were great dishes.

First up was the truffled mac & cheese with aged Comté. Can’t really go wrong with a mac & cheese although some may complain that the truffle wasn’t strong enough, but all good for us. Then we had crispy baby squid which as you can imagine from good crispy squid was rather moreish. The crumbed duck rillettes were also naughty goodness, crispy croquette style bits stuffed with tasty duck meat.

A real highlight was the cured salmon tartare, freshest dish of them all and accompanied by apple, lemon, creme fraîche and spring onions. The sourdough roll came with an unusual marmite butter and crispy barley. Not overly marmitey so pretty sure it won’t divide you lovers and haters out there.

The menu has a really big choice to choose from and we definitely could have sampled many of the other dishes on offer. Instead we moved onto dessert and shared what was perhaps the star of the evening. The profiteroles with caramel and kataifi, the prettiest things I’ve seen in a long time and so so good. Hopefully we can fill our croquembouche tower at the wedding with these delights.

All in all it was a very successful meal and the place was rammed so I expect they’ll continue to be pretty busy over the coming months. Especially in Summer great place to make use of their outdoor tables, oh the Summer, is it here yet!
